Outgoing President
Elsa Arango
The Presidency of Biomede is not an honorary title; it is an active service to the global orthodontic community. Whoever assumes this responsibility stewards the association’s core purpose: to advance orthodontic biomechanics as the essential foundation of safe, high-quality practice, regardless of diagnostic philosophy or therapeutic technique.
This role orchestrates four key fronts:
(1) defining and continually updating a minimum standard of biomechanical knowledge that safeguards clinical safety;
(2) building bridges between researchers and clinicians to spark joint projects and sustain a vibrant scientific dialogue;
(3) delivering and championing continuous education through rigorous, accessible courses for orthodontists; and
(4) certifying the academic quality of those courses to ensure consistency, ethics, and excellence.
From the Presidency, the membership is heard, regions and schools of thought are connected, and Biomede is represented before universities, scientific societies, and strategic partners. It is a work of curation and coordination—turning evidence into practice, practice into standards, and standards into better outcomes for patients.
Today, Dr. Elsa Arango (Colombia) embodies this leadership with a service-oriented vision and a commitment to knowledge transfer. Previously, Dr. Giorgio Fiorelli (Italy) served with equal dedication, helping to cement a culture of rigor and continual evolution. Together, they symbolize what the Biomede Presidency stands for: a global network that learns, teaches, and steadily elevates orthodontic biomechanics for the benefit of all.
